PUMP UP THE JOY 2009
by =dia-aren-marie on deviantART
I finished the sketch from the last entry! Do check it out if you can.
It’s never too late to say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year~!

Kind of spoils the surprise, but hey, look! Second day of my attempt at drawing more often, and I think it’s going swimmingly. Even if they’re for drawing memes on dA. I’ve never finished one of those, you know? I still remember the first one by… Nyu, I believe? I only got up to the second or third question.
So far, the meme on the top has been a lot of fun, even if it takes me an hour (or more!) just to sketch and ink one answer. That’s because I’ve been using reference and being super OCD to make up for the lack of practice this year. Can I still call them doodles if they take me that long? They’re still not exactly professional or polished work, but they’re pretty much there…
The meme on the bottom, I’m just about to get back to. I think for this one, I’ll try to finish all the sketches first before I begin inking. Let’s see if it works.

Well, that was certainly unforeseen.
It’s almost 2010 and unfortunately I didn’t seem to keep up with sketching this year. I could tell you all the reasons for them (excuses and typhoons and all) but there’s really no point in enumerating them. I think the problem was trying to work at other people’s paces. So, my goal for 2010 isn’t to update everyday, or every week. Every month is already pushing it.
What I would like to do now is to use this blog for updates for what I’ve been doodling, rather than forcing myself to doodle just so I have something to post. The latter method doesn’t seem to work very well! So I’m turning it around. Yes, I’ll admit I haven’t even doodled for myself at all this year (not exaggerating!), but I’ll focus on the drawing aspect, rather than the updating aspect. Does that make sense? I apologize if I sound like I’m running around in circles.
I can’t promise myself or others that I can draw every day, or even produce that much art, but what I’ll try to do now is build the attitude of not letting something stop me once I do get the urge to draw. In short: I can still be a lazy ass, but not as bad as I am now. Haha!
Currently working on a silly holiday/new year’s pic. Very simple, very doodly, but it’s still work. What do you mean I’m procrastinating on my academics?

Yes, I know the updates have been… non-existent on this for a while. But I have drawn a couple of things here and there, when June started, at least. I have to get back to that though. Now that I’ve somewhat adjusted to schoolwork and have been taking a better look at my goals and such in life, I think I’ll be ready to tackle this again.
Give me a couple more weeks.
I’ll update with good stuff. Not giving up! And neither should you fine people (not only the few of you who actually follow this.)

It’s been a month since I last posted?! Seriously? Holy crap, I didn’t even know.
Have some Black Jack frontal bust shots (in slightly different styles) and those few sketches I promised last update.

Practice! Was going to be my sample for Super Charity Go. ^^;

Something I sketched up while I was at the UP AME caricature booth at the Shizen Orchestra last April 25, 2007.
Pretty proud of both of these.

I finally got the chance to scan in the last of my sketches for this challenge. While I bombed the challenge, it turns out I sketched a lot less than I thought I did! Maybe the rest was schoolwork. Weird.
Apologies but I am down with some form of flu/cold right now so I don’t have much to say. There’s at least one thing here I haven’t scanned (finishing it up) and these aren’t in order but here we go.

Black Jack sketch! Was supposed to be for my personal 10media challenge, but I think I’ll change it. Still, I want to try rendering this in ink wash anyway.

Oh goodness gracious finally I can post like normal again! See, I tried the auto-upgrade feature to Wordpress 2.7.1, and… well, when that happened, I just couldn’t post at all, and my interface was weird. I’ve been trying to fix this for weeks. I finally found a solution though. Deleting and re-uploading works wonders!
I wondered why my layout looked weird now and thought it was the upgrade, but it’s just now I found out my laptop was set to 1280×800 all along! Gone are the days that I was used to seeing mostly black for this layout. My reality has been shattered!
But now that I finally got this blog working again, my desktop computer died the other morning, and it had the random artworks I wanted to share. :[ I’m on my trusty laptop, Black Jack, till I get a new computer. Such is life!
Oh well. Have these two comics I did to destress that I posted on my LJ!

Hello! I realize I failed to mention on sites other than my blog (that is not of the sketch) that I’ve gone on a temporary hiatus from the entire internet for the month (or till March) for I have a LOT of catching up to do in uni!
I’m still trying to do Draw Everyday February but alas, I will admit right now that I have failed a couple of days. But I will still try, because that’s the point of it! Funny how the greatest artistic challenges are held during my hell months. Man!
I do have a few things to post (mostly college work) but for now have a preview of the Flash instructional thing I am working on:

Who might this be?
I CURSE TWEENING FOREVER.
Be back for real soon!

Staedtler fineliner pens.
Day 5: Lots of random doodles while I was talking to my friends/classmates about things like horror games… and reviewers, like the Angry Video Game Nerd, Nostalgia Critic, and Yahtzee. I have unusual fandoms.

Sense? There is none.
I love them plate titles. ;P This one is from back in early December. Not much to say other than this is another acrylic wash plate where we had to try to get “thin or anorexic” and “fat or obese” proportions down. Pretty happy with the guy, and I know the girl, even strictly following the reference I had, looks weird. I really need to work on drawing fingers.
And I know her head might look a bit small, but it was a sacrifice I had to make to make this thing look like a scene… well, as much sense as a woman in a swimsuit turning around just in time to witness a fat man in a tutu waltzing past her while “Tiptoe Through The Tulips” plays in the background would make.
Still didn’t quite have the hang of acrylic wash here (still very inexperienced with the medium). I need to be more careful and use less contour lines as possible. Economy of lines, as my prof coins it.

Plotting. Literally.
This next one, about child proportions, from early January turned out much better.
I started becoming braver with the acrylic wash here, layering it down much more solidly. Granted I still need to work on gesturals in general, especially since I tend not to notice mistakes until I’m midway into a drawing. Pretty happy about this one.

Your regular February Draw Everyday Challenge posts will resume tomorrow! (This is not part of it. ;P)
