Rainbow Pop!

Hey guys! Miraculously enough, I managed to win NaNoWriMo this year, and it being my first attempt… well, it was really nice! I just hope next year that I participate on the site and forums. It would probably make the experience even more of a blast!

My novel is under “Satire, Humor, and Parody”, and tentatively entitled “Less Talk, More Robots”, though that might end up being its final name. Ironically enough there is a lot of dialogue in the novel. Whenever I needed a burst of creativity, I tried to design some of the characters for it.

So have a massive sketch post! In this edition we have character concept sketches of Glynn, Nathan, Violetto, Glen and Narcissa. None of them are final yet!

Meet the first ever concept sketch of Glynn de la Gomez-Ladaga, one of our main characters! Yes, feel free to laugh at the name, that’s on purpose. This still wasn’t exactly what I was going for, but it’s a good start, and close enough! A college student taking up … I don’t know what yet. Decides to play along with his best friend’s idea of starting a band since he loves music.

Augh, why was the entire universe born in November? Really, every day someone had a birthday. (Then again that makes me realize just how many people I have met and am getting to know now. XD;)

While I cannot exactly deliver to all the November babies, I still wanted to try and give at least a little something! … though my hand died in the middle of it…

Because I was unable to sleep well last night, I decided to whip out the sketchbook and try to draw my characters for NaNoWriMo again. Glynn is the only one I really have a clear-ish idea for so far… I can’t seem to get the look I want for Nathan down!

I should sketch the rest of them sometime, to help me describe my own characters. If there’s one thing I’m bad at, it’s describing things…

This is… potentially spoiler-y, except not, since my novel revolves around parodies of mecha, sentai and other general things about animation!

Meet one of our main characters, Glynn, and his female antagonistic alter ego, Glen! I was way too amused drawing this. Also hello gigantic earphone. I really didn’t have any grasp of proportion last night either. ^^; OR EVER.

I don’t know why I am so amused by Glynn’s expression here. Haha, hello beta Nathan! Argh, I wish I could get down the design I’m envisioning for you, except whatever I do seem to get down already looks like an existing character. How irritating!

So sorry I haven’t had a huge batch of doodles to dispatch like I did the very first post. Have a style practice fanart doodle instead. ♥

It’s not the first time I used different colors for different ‘layers’ but I think this is the first time it actually looked quite organized. I think the hair needs work, but I’m not sure what to do with it. Ah well, more practice to come!

Sorry for the sparse updates - I haven’t really done much in the way of doodling and sketching. (Darn it, self. DARN IT.) But, I did remember something I did back in summer - April 9, to be precise, and I forgot to do the modifications I wanted to, so I did that today.

Something I just had to draw while I got infatuated with the song Waiting For You from the Silent Hill series. He originally had purple hair, but per ’s suggestion I turned it to a more mint green color. Not exactly the best shade, but it was the most I could do with adjustment layers, since I wasn’t really up to redoing the hair all over again. I was planning on finishing it, but I guess I forgot about it. It ended up being an experiment with layers in Photoshop, especially the ‘tattoo’ designs on him. I quite like it.

According to my array of files here, I started it in OpenCanvas 3 but continued it in Photoshop 7, done with my Intuos3 tablet.

Yep, that’s the title of the storybook we made for SocSci3 (”Gender and Sexuality”) class as our final project. A collaboration by me, Lira, and Justine. Story and original character concepts by Lira, art and character designing by Justine and me

Unfortunately, I only have the ones I made, excluding the classroom and home scene assigned to me (I disliked how I made those two scenes ^^; Sorry!) Justine did a great job, too. We’re falling in love with our own characters~

I had tons of leftover shades of grey and black after finishing my FA10 Dimensions of Color plate, and since it was poster paint and not watercolor that I could reuse even if they dried, I decided to use them for a little fun.

WIP of my self-portrait using colored pencils for FA12 - Techniques I class. Since my professor said that using the Watercolor version of Faber-Castell pencils is hard and won’t give very good results, I had to resort to using my 12 (I’m pretty sure they’re 12… or 24?) set of Prismacolor pencils from four years ago.

IT’S TOO BIG FOR MY SCANNER. And I don’t have time to splice it together.

This is 10% of the actual size, at least, scanning-wise. This is on a 1/2 sheet of bristol vellum.

The eyes looked better without color. Also, wtf, hand. Oddly enough, seeing the whole thing tinier gave me an idea of how to fix that hand. Huh. The more you know!

Off to finish it now.

One of the drawings I sent to my penpal in Brazil. We’re doing this really interesting and fun art trade thing with specific themes and sharing art. This was my first reply to her - I feel bad that it took me forever to do so, but I hope she’s gotten it safe and sound now, I sent it a week or two ago.

I kind of liked how the style was headed, but then I screwed up as usual. Oops.

Makes me happy to know I am where I am right now. I hope I can reach them, someday…

FA14 plate concept sketches. We were to make headgear and footgear out of rubber foam.I ended up mixing Megaman X influences with my rainbow helmet that’s based on Guy-Manuel’s. Come on, the rainbows and the heart are too delicious to resist. Well, okay. I’m going to try to make the emoticons interchangeable, actually. Only if I can manage it, though.
